Children

Following assessment, parents of children who stutter who are ready to commence treatment will be given the recommendation to begin either weekly or fortnightly individual sessions.
Treatments used for children who stutter include:
The Lidcombe Program
The Oakville Program
The Westmead Program
Parents And Caregivers
Parents and/or caregivers are required to attend all sessions with their child.
These treatments involve the speech pathologist training the parents or caregivers to run home practice sessions with the child daily. The parents or caregivers will be taught to identify the behaviours of stuttering and to rate the severity accurately. They will also see demonstrations of practice sessions being done and will be coached to do these just as well themselves at home. Consistency and parental/care giver involvement are pivotal in these programs, and the speech pathologist is there to guide and direct the process with you.
